Hundreds of residents flocked to University of Pretoria’s Mamelodi Campus in Tshwane on Monday to get first-hand information on what Gauteng’s number one citizen Nomvula Mokonyane had in store for them.
Mokonyane was in the Jacaranda City to deliver her State of the Province Address at the opening of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
In the midst of eager residents who packed the university’s main hall was pensioner Emily Letsoalo,65, of Extension 5 in Mamelodi.
Letsoalo told gautengonline that she braved the scorching temperature to hear what premier had to say about the state of the province.
She said after the speech: “I am satisfied with the premier’s address. My wish is to see the government putting a stop to privatisation of cemeteries as it has now become expensive to bury our loved ones.”
She also added that she was dissatisfied with her municipal rates because she has not seen any changes despite her registering with the municipality as a pensioner.
“The government promised to subsidise our municipal rates as pensioners. But this does not reflect in our statements. This matter should be attended to as a matter of urgency as we are struggling,” she said.
