CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE… Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, on Monday urged the Gautrain management and striking bus drivers to find a swift solution to their disagreements which have disrupted the daily bus service of the flagship public transport system.

Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has offered her sincere apologies to Gautrain commuters for the regular disruption following the Gautrain bus strike.

Delivering her fourth State of the Province Address on Monday in Mamelodi, Mokonyane said the service must start running efficiently again.

“We urge management and workers to find an amicable solution that must not make our passengers suffer.  They must find an amicable solution,” said Mokonyane.

Gautrain bus drivers embarked on an illegal bus strike at the beginning of the month.

They are demanding transportation to the bus depots, for shifts that fall under abnormal working hours.

In addition, Mokonyane said the launch of the Gautrain service between Tshwane and Johannesburg, further increasing the number of people in the province who use public transport.

“Last year saw the exciting opening of the Gautrain service between Tshwane and Johannesburg, further increasing the number of people in the province who use public transport.

“In response to this demand, additional capacity will be introduced from March this year,” said Mokonyane.
