Gauteng MEC for infrastructure Development, Jacob Mamabolo, has reassured the residents of Rondebult in Ekurhuleni that the long awaited Roodekop Primary School will soon be built as two new potential sites have been identified.

The department had initially earmarked a suitable site for construction of the school in 2014 but unfortunately discovered that the land had high levels of dolomite, which has delayed construction.
Mamabolo along with the department’s officials visited the site where the smart school was meant to be built and told the community of Rondebult that two new sites have been identified and geotechnical studies will be speedily conducted on them.

“Two privately owned sites were identified within a 2km radius from the old site so that they could be subjected to dolomite risk investigation and geotechnical assessments,” said Mamabolo.
The Ekurhuleni area has pockets of land parcels with dolomite prevalence, which can pose a risk to buildings due to the weak load-bearing capacity of the soil, and can also result in sinkholes.

MEC Mamabolo has also committed to resolving all the bottlenecks that have resulted in delays of the construction and also promised the community that he will give them the progress on the investigations and assessments of the two potential sites by March this year.
“I will ensure that this is done in a timely fashion so that we move close to building this much needed community asset,” he added.
