International Nurses Day
Gauteng’s Department of Health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe will join nurses in commemoration of International Nurses Day.
 
The International Council of Nurses has declared 12 May as the International Nurses Day in remembrance of Florence Nightingale who is considered as the founder of modern nursing.  In South Africa, the first black nurse Cecilia Makiwane is also remembered.

Candlelight memorial service
Gauteng’s MEC for Health, Ntombi Mekgwe will remember the lives of those who died from HIV and AIDS and support people living with HIV and AIDS-related illnesses at a candlelight memorial service.
 
The aim of this event is to create awareness around the need for care and support to AIDS patients and the affected families and to inform the community about prevention, treatment, care and support services available for people living with the disease.
