Premier, MECs to visit illegal drag race victims
09 March 2010
Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, accompanied by MECs for Education and Transport and Roads – Barbara Creecy and Bheki Nkosi respectively – will today be visiting the families of five teenagers who were killed in a reckless driving case in Soweto yesterday.
This comes in the wake of media reports alleging that kwaito star, Jub Jub - real name Molemo Maarohanye - and his friends, engaged in an illegal public drag racing in a residential area, resulting in the killing of five scholars and injuries to two others.
The provincial government has stated that it condemned the practice of illegal drag racing and driving under the influence of alcohol and the abuse of substances in whatever form.
As a caring and responsive government, the GPG will today visit the affected Soweto community.
