Gauteng State of the Province Address

On Monday, 22 February 2010, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will deliver her annual State of the Province address when she opens the Gauteng legislature.

The State of the Province Address (SOPA) is one of the most important milestones on the provincial government’s political and communication calendar.  It sets the tone and messaging for the year ahead and provides an important opportunity for the Premier to showcase the provincial government’s achievements, outline progress in fulfilling its commitments as well as the key priorities and commitments for the year ahead in meeting the needs of the people.  

The Premier’s address is also expected to reaffirm key commitments, not just for the year ahead but for the remainder of the five-year term of office.  

Following on the President’s state of the nation address, the Gauteng SOPA is also expected to further elaborate on and reinforce the messaging and key issues of relevance to the province as raised by the President.

This Premier’s address will be broadcast live at various centres identified by the Government Communication and Information Services (GCIS) in the Office of the Premier, Including Government offices.

The public areas for broadcast are:

  • Winterveldt Multipurpose Community Hall
  • Khutsong Community Hall
  • Diepsloot Youth Centre
  • Kwa Thema Community Hall
  • Impumelelo Community Hall (Devon)
  • Rethabiseng Community Hall

Also watch the speech at the Baragwanath and Germiston taxi ranks and Mabopane, Denneboom and Johannesburg Park train stations.
