Gauteng Online gives expression to the Gauteng Provincial Government’s e-Government’s strategy, the vision of which is inspired by the Batho Pele (People First) service delivery principles which advocate courtesy to the public as well as increased openness and transparency.

The portal has been designed to ensure improved communication and service delivery across governmental agencies and stakeholder communities alike in line with these progressive world trends. One of the benefits of the GPG eGovernment is improved social welfare of all citizens, with a view to saving residents and visitors to Gauteng money in the form of faster, easier and more convenient service, better quality and reduced turnaround times, and in some cases a reduction in the direct cost for the service.

There are also many social benefits valued by residents including increased community skill and knowledge, and new business and work opportunities. The GPG e-government portal can also deliver cost savings to government in the form of speedier transactions and lower staff costs.

Within the GPG eGovernment programme, an integrated platform for realizing one-stop government has been developed. This one-stop government platform allows the public sector to provide the stakeholders with information and public services, thus increasing the efficacy and quality of public services.

A One-stop point of delivery for government services suggests that residents and all other interested parties can access a comprehensive mix of public services aligned to their needs and circumstances with minimum need for physical human interaction that usually is the course for unnecessary delivery bottlenecks.
